Demonstration for Mauritius in London

October 2 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The Speaker of our Parliament (Mr Phokeer), forgetting all manners and etiquette, entered into a diatribe about the facial appearance of a long serving MP who the Mauritian people deemed of acceptable enough appearance to vote in several times, over several decades. 11 times he exclaimed in the House, “Look at your face”. 11 times he insulted those stricken by the stigma attached to Vitiligo. The gap between the Mauritian population and those that govern her was laid bare that day and much of the efforts of local and International NGOS to ensure Mauritius fulfills its obligations as per the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) were negated as the parliamentary session continued as if nothing had happened.

We live in a time where defending Democracy has become the duty of all people of good faiths who share the values of Justice, Inclusion and Meritocracy (JIM). We would be honoured by your presence at this International Day of Non-Violence on October 02nd, 2021, from 2 pm to 4 pm, Parliament Square, London, to denounce the Ableism and Discrimination displayed towards those who suffer from Vitiligo and other disabilities. Let us together stand on the right side of history and fight for Mauritius and the South African region to ensure that Citizens with all abilities are able to contribute to the progress of their communities.
